Centre for Sustainable Livelihoods
The Environment Centre is proud to be associated with this initiative, in collaboration with the Touch Africa: Michael Wamalwa Foundation, to create a Centre of Excellence for Sustainable Livelihoods in Kitale, Kenya. The project, still in its early stages, will use the expertise available through the Environment Centre and its networks to develop a centre in Kitale where widows and other displaced or marginalised women, including women living with HIV/AIDS, and their children, can learn organic gardening and permaculture, traditional skills and cottage industries to provide them with the means to pursue economic independence and security. We are currently seeking funding to enable the building phase of the project to get underway - planning and development of the site in Kitale as well as the establishment of a permaculture garden and on-site training in biointensive agriculture by a Kenyan specialist in the field. For more information about this project, please call the Centre.
